Your dog is a threat to burglars? Then his life is also at risk . One of the major causes of death in dogs is poisoned food . many "excellent trained dogs" have lost their precious life to poisoned food either tossed over the fence by potential intruders or foods left for rodents to eat and die . Many methods have been used to achieve this ; some effective, some not firm enough and others seemingly cruel . One of such methods is the use of two tiny insulated wires with a pair end attached to a 15v battery and the other pair end attached to a piece of raw meat . The wired meat is strategically placed near the fenced terrain. The wires should be passed into a PVC pipe so it could be concealed away from the dogs view . A little salt could be added to the meat to aid conductivity. Release the dog and provide it the opportunity to discover the meat itself . The dog put its mouth and get shocked . One great mistake we make with training is we don't have a plan . in dog training we have the teaching phase , the correction phase , and the testing (proofing) phase . Mostly we don't get beyond the teaching phase . a dog proficient In eat on command should also be taught to stop eating on command . you achieve this by saying stop and putting the dog back in sit position and gently holding him down there . Say eat again and leave the dog to continue eating ; this is correction stage . Proofing stage is taking this same dog that has been proficient in eat and stop out of your compound on the main street with controlled level of distraction (leash on) and telling it to eat on command ; you will be surprise that most dog won't be able to relate what have been taught yo a new  environment so you will have to reteach that dog in that new environment , overtime you change to new environment with increasing level of distraction and reteach until he knows eat command must be o

Teaching a dog to eat only on command - Put your food plate with its content  down -  Release your dog on leash toward the food plate - He is obviously eager to start eating so put him into a sit position in front of the food , hold him there till he calms down while still drooling - Say "eat" and release him to eat the food What you have taught the dog through "classical conditioning " is that he is only permitted to eat once he sit down and calms in front of the food until you say the eat command. The success of the training lies in consistency and it is advised to ration the food so as to be able yo have multiple sessions of the eat on command training session in a day . This helps to learn faster . The average dog will pick this lesson in less than 10 days . just be calm , patient and consistent and you will have a "eat on command" trained dog .
